Brodus Clay: The Funkasaurus

I’ve been a wrestling fan my whole life. As a kid, it was my entire world. Day in and day out, it was nothing but professional wrestling. As I grew up and entered college, I became more of a casual fan who still watched the shows and followed everything, but wasn’t as wrapped up in it as I was when I was 5. In fact, for a few years, I took a break from wrestling all together.

But we come back. We all come back.

Every now and then, something happens in wrestling that catches you completely off-guard and puts a smile on your face. Being someone who has watched wrestling since before I can remember, it’s not too often that something really makes me do a double take.

Well, tonight on Monday Night RAW, it happened for me.

For weeks, the re-debut of Brodus Clay has been talked about. When he was last seen, Brodus was a dominating monster who crushed everyone in his path. He had been talked up for seemingly endless weeks, and everyone assumed that when he did show up again, we would get the same monster.

We were wrong.

Billed from The Planet Funk, “The Funkasaurus” Brodus Clay made his reemergence, and it was beautiful. He entered with two dancers to a funky new theme song, dancing all the way to and in the ring. With a Run-DMC-esque red jumpsuit and fedora on, Brodus made an impression that left me (and I’m sure many others) confused but entertained.
